A Sugary Saturday

A slice of multi-layered torta rogel on a plate.

Rogel is a torte of crispy, wafer-like dough separating thick layers of dulce de leche, topped with airy merengue and bits of walnuts. It's like a gigantic version of my favorite style of alfajor and is daunting even for a sweet-toothed porteño. Served with a cafe doble, it is a fabulous sugar rush after couch shopping on Belgrano Av.

  1. You have an interesting blog and I look forward to reading and learning more about Argentina. The torte looks very sweet and big enough to share. Judy

    • Thank you!
I love dulce de leche. I normally prefer it in smaller quantities (I used to eat it by the spoonful), but this torte is well balanced because the wafer-dough is not as sugary.

What do you think about this?
